Almost a Hundred Years of Basque

Immigration in American Cinema

The Basque Cultural Center’s Basque Educational Organization presents a special lecture by Dr. Oscar Alvarez, of the University of the Basque Country, who will present his research on the history of the image of Basque Immigration in American Cinema.

Dr. Alvarez will give a general overview of the question -how American films have presented Basque-Americans, how many films, a short timeline, a general perspective of the image of Basque immigrants (most of the characters in American cinema have presented Basques as Sheepherders, Winemakers, Jai-Alai players and Terrorist). Afterwards Dr. Alvarez will screen examples from several TV series with Basque characters.
